Polymaker retires PolyLite PETG for a faster-printing Polymaker PETG

Polymaker is discontinuing PolyLite PETG and folding it into a reformulated product simply called Polymaker PETG. The company describes the successor as a faster, higher-adhesion formula, and it now sells under the same PolyLite product page and SKUs, so the old name is on its way out.

What changed

PolyLite PETG has been one of the more common budget-to-midrange PETG spools for years. Polymaker is now retiring that name and shipping a new formulation under the Polymaker PETG label. According to Polymaker's own product and wiki pages, the reformulated PETG is a high-flow design that extrudes cleanly at speeds up to 300 mm/s, and over 500 mm/s with a high-flow nozzle, while holding onto layer adhesion, low warping, and a clog-free run on long prints.

The headline improvement over the old PolyLite formula is layer adhesion. Polymaker positions the new PETG as bonding noticeably better between layers than the spool it replaces, which is the axis where budget PETG usually gives up strength. The rebrand is a straight successor rather than a new premium tier: same core material, new formula, one name.

Why it matters

Naming transitions like this one create a window where both the old and new spools sit on retailer shelves at the same time, sometimes at different prices. If you have dialed-in PolyLite PETG profiles, expect to re-tune: a high-flow reformulation can want different temperatures and flow rates than the spool your slicer profile was built around. The upside is that a faster, better-bonding PETG at the same market position is a genuine improvement for functional prints.

What this means for buyers

Check the label before you reorder. If a listing still says PolyLite PETG, it may be old stock, which is fine if the price is right but will not have the new high-flow behavior. Treat the new Polymaker PETG as a fresh profile: start near the vendor's recommended settings and dial in flow and temperature rather than reusing an old PolyLite profile unchanged. Dry the spool before printing, as with any PETG.

Where it fits

Polymaker is one of the larger brands we monitor, so this transition ripples across a lot of listings. The live Polymaker listings show current pricing as the old and new PETG spools cycle through stock, and the full PETG listings put it next to every other PETG we compare on price per kg.
