PETG vs ASA: Which Holds Up Better Outside
Both work outdoors. Pick PETG for light outdoor use or if you print on an open machine: it is easy to print and handles weather well. Pick ASA for parts in full sun all year or near heat. It resists UV and heat better, but needs an enclosure and ventilation.

When to Choose PETG
PETG resists water and many chemicals, handles heat to around 70°C and prints without an enclosure, so it is the easy choice for planters, garden clips and outdoor parts that are not in harsh sun all day.
When to Choose ASA
ASA is made to resist UV, so it keeps its color and strength after years in direct sun, and it handles heat to around 90 to 100°C. It is the better pick for exterior car parts, roof or wall mounts and anything facing the summer sun.
Printing Differences
PETG prints on an open printer but strings and can stick too hard to smooth PEI. ASA needs a hot bed, an enclosure and ventilation because of its fumes, but warps less than ABS.
Cost Differences
ASA usually costs a bit more per kilogram than PETG. The live prices on this page show where the two stand right now.

PETG vs ASA FAQ
Is PETG UV resistant?
Reasonably, and much more than PLA, but it can fade and weaken after long periods in direct sun. ASA is the better choice for full sun exposure.
Do I need an enclosure for ASA?
Yes, for reliable results. ASA warps and splits in cool drafts, and an enclosure also helps contain its fumes.
Which is stronger, PETG or ASA?
They are similar in everyday toughness. ASA handles heat and UV better; PETG is easier to print and more chemical resistant.
