Coverage from Geeky Gadgets in early March 2026 first flagged that PETG High Flow had gone fully out of stock and that ABS was unavailable across most variants. TPU and ASA were listed as available only in limited quantities. Two months later, the picture has not fundamentally changed.

As of May 5, 2026, multiple PLA Basic refill colors in the US store are out of stock or projected to deplete within the day, including Magenta, Indigo Purple, Bright Green, Hot Pink, Cocoa Brown, and Brown. A handful of spool variants such as Sunflower Yellow and Hot Pink have been rotating in and out of stock at intervals measured in hours rather than days. Several core colors including Black, Jade White, Bambu Green, and Mistletoe Green show stable stock above the API cap, so the shortage is uneven rather than total. Conditions in the AU, UK, CA, and EU stores look comparable, with multi-week out-of-stock spans for popular PLA colors.
What is driving the shortage
Bambu Lab transitioned filament production in-house over the past year to consolidate quality control and capture more margin. That kind of shift is normally invisible to buyers when capacity ramps in step with demand. In this case, demand jumped sharply during Black Friday 2025 and the months after, as new owners of the A1 mini, X1, P1S, and the recently launched X2D all started buying first spools at the same time. The combination produced a structural mismatch that the company is still working through.
Bambu has not committed to a public timeline for resolving the gap. Restocks at the US and EU stores have been observed selling out in under an hour for popular SKUs, which suggests the constraint is on the production side rather than logistics.
What this means for buyers
If you need a specific Bambu Lab color or material in the next two weeks, do not assume it will be available when you go to order. Sign up for restock notifications on the exact SKU you want, and pick a fallback brand before the print job is queued. For most use cases, third-party PLA and PETG print fine on Bambu Lab printers using the included generic profiles or built-in vendor profiles for Polymaker, Overture, and eSUN.

Sunlu and eSUN sit at the budget end and are widely stocked through Amazon and direct retailers. Elegoo Rapid PETG and PLA Plus carry pre-built profiles in Bambu Studio. Polymaker PETG and PLA Pro come at a higher price point but with tighter tolerances. Each of these brands ships in 1 kg formats compatible with the AMS, though spool dimensions vary slightly and may require a generic empty spool for some refill SKUs.
